Welcome to HIT 1100! This course is a body system approach covering medical word roots, suffixes and prefixes. Emphasis is place on pronunciation through use of the textbook CD, spelling and proper usage of medical terms. Medical abbreviations are also introduced as it relates to Health Information Management. This is a 3 credit hours class. Tuition is $15 and must be paid at SLCC before the tuition deadline.

- Make-up tests/quizzes are made up outside of class time, before or after school, within ONE WEEK of EXCUSED absence. If your absence is UNEXCUSED, you will not be allowed to make up the test or quiz.

- Midterm Test comprising of chapters 1-9 (100 points, closed book)
- Comprehensive Final (100 points, closed book)

- Classroom group and individual reviews
- For EXCUSED absences on days of review, students will need to complete “Critical Thinking Exercises” found at the beginning of the chapter we are currently covering AND an additional 40 minutes on quizlet for each review class period missed OR review worksheets missed.
- If your absence from school is EXCUSED, it is your responsibility to complete class assignments you may have missed.
- Assignments NOT turned in because of an absence are due THE DAY OF RETURN (eg. An assignment is due on Tuesday and you are absent. You come back to school on Thursday. Your assignments must be turned in on Thursday or it is late).
- For EXCUSED absences, students will need to submit work missed the next class period to receive full credit. If it is not turned in by the next class period, it will be marked late and there will be a minimum 25% deduction.
- I will accept late work up to 10 days after assignments are due, with a minimum 25% deduction.
- Work missed for UNEXCUSED or TRUANT absences will receive no credit.
- All absences and tardies in excess count against a student’s academic record.
- The Copper Hills High School Attendance Policy will be enforced, allowing 2 absences and 3 tardies before receiving a “NO GRADE”. Please check the attendance policy for more information about this policy.
- Students with a “NO GRADE” (NG) will need to attend Attendance school at a cost of $5.00 per session. Once session will clear one absence or two tardies. Enough sessions should be attended to clear the students earned grade.
- Students are considered tardy if they are not in their seats when the tardy bell rings. Students who arrive fewer than 10 minutes late to class will be marked tardy (T). Students arriving more than 10 minutes late will be marked Way Late (WL). Way late counts the same as an absence.
- Cell phones are to be turned off and put away at all times, UNLESS otherwise directed by the teacher
- Use of I-Pods, MP3 players or any personal electronic device is not permitted during class time (teacher permission is required)
